Enfour announces free Web proxy service for Japanese Psion users Enfour Group head office, Tokyo. December 1st 2000 Enfour KK. announced today commencement of a proxy server service for all Psion users in Japan. The service enables users of Enfour's UniFEP V2 Japanese language environment for Symbian Platform (EPOC) devices to access Japanese Web pages. This rounds out UniFEP's localization and enables Psion devices to become complete Mobile Internet devices for Japanese users. Enfour's proxy server will convert legacy Japanese text encodings to UTF-8 while retaining all content, layout and links. (UTF-8 is an Internet compatible Unicode text encoding standard. It is much better than older desktop encodings in that is supports the mixing of Asian languages and extended European character sets with standard Latin & ASCII.) The proxy service will support Chinese and Korean encodings as UniFEP support for those languages are released later this year. Enfour's proxy server also offers optional color reduction for graphics to speed downloads for wireless users. The proxy service is entirely free to UniFEP V2 users. |
