Enfour the new face for Psion in Japan 22 March 1999 - Psion plc (Asia Pacific) - Singapore Psion Computers, a world leader in mobile computing and communications, announce the appointment of Enfour Inc. as its authorized distributor for its range of palmtop computers in Japan. This is a move to strengthen Psion's distribution network in the Asia Pacific region. Under the terms of the agreement, Enfour Inc. assumes responsibility for all sales, marketing and distribution of Psion palmtop computers, the award-winning Psion Series 5, and its peripherals and accessories. The products will be sold through the company's nationwide network of specialized computer shops. Converging computer and communications technologies have fuelled demand for palmtop computers in this region. Psion's move into the Japanese market is a major step in its regional efforts to tap the vast potential of Asia's mobile computing market. The company aims to grow Psion's sales in Asia Pacific to at least 20% of Psion's total turnover. Psion Series 5 The Psion Series 5 has the look and the feel of a miniature laptop that slips nicely into your pocket. Combining innovative design and new technology, it incorporates a patented touch-type keyboard, a full VGA width back-lit screen, a touch screen for navigation, and a digital voice recorder that doubles up as a dictaphone. It runs on 2 AA batteries providing a typical usage of 35 hours. With 8MB of memory, it is capable of storing up to 2000 pages of text. Inside the Psion Series 5 are powerful applications to help manage business and personal information while on the road. Each Psion Series 5 comes with a powerful PC integration software solution, PSIWIN, that enables users to synchronise information from the Series 5 to the user's favourite desktop software (Lotus, Microsoft, Novell or Corel) and transfer of files from PC to the Series 5 and vice versa. It is certified for compatibility with Windows 98 and Windows NT. The palmtop is built on a 32-bit ARM RISC processor and runs on the EPOC operating system, a realtime open architecture that allows multitasking.
